Why Are Women Still on the Sidelines in the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem?
The numbers are increasing. We are hearing the term "female entrepreneur" more often in panels, fundraising announcements, and ecosystem maps.
But we know the truth. Women are still on the fringes of the system. Somewhere out there…
But not at the center. Not in a position to make decisions. Not in the spotlight.
Today, whenever an entrepreneurship event is organized in Türkiye or anywhere in the world, female speakers are often positioned as a kind of "diversity quota."
The vast majority of startups that receive funding are comprised of male teams.
Even in investor meetings, women are still sometimes asked, "Are you really interested in this project?"
Women exist within the system. But they are not visible. They are not powerful. They are not at the center.
But why?
– Women are not being invested in because they are not considered aggressive enough.
– When they become aggressive, they are labeled as "inappropriate".
– When they remain silent, people say, "They lack leadership qualities."
– When they try to strike a work-life balance, they're told they "lack focus."
So no matter which way we look, the system seems programmed to keep women on the sidelines. We need to ask this question louder now:
"Why are women only supported, why aren't they positioned equally?" "Why are women not just showcased, why aren't they part of the core structure of the system?"
Women can be not only inspiring stories, but also strategic partners. They can be not only funded entrepreneurs, but also investors.
They can be not only a speaker, but also a system designer.
After reading this article, I'd like to ask just one thing:
“When do you think the entrepreneurship system will put women at its center?”
Write your comments, let's discuss it together.
